To apply for a Silo account, users must be:
No, there is not a minimum or maximum amount you are required to save with Silo
Silo is a discretionary service, the plan we recommend is based on the information you provide. Your money will be spread across up to 16 different investment funds, all of which contain a wide range of different holdings, so you never have all your eggs in one basket (what Investors term a well-diversified portfolio). You will be able to see a breakdown of exactly where your money is invested on the ‘Portfolio’ page in the app.
Creating a Silo account and connecting to your bank account should take no more than fifteen minutes, providing you have all your documents in order. We’ll need to ask you a few questions designed to ensure that Silo is suitable for you, before getting you started.
For legal guardians looking to open and manage a Junior ISA (JISA), they would need to:
And then apply for a JISA.
Yes, you can transfer your Stocks and Shares Individual Savings Account ( ISA ) or Junior ISA from your provider to Silo any time. If you have any questions about how, please contact our support team at [email protected]
Junior ISAs can only be opened by an individual who has parental responsibility for a child who is under the age of 18 and lives in the UK.
You must have an account with Silo to open a Junior ISA, meaning you will be the Registered Contact for the account.
When your child turns 18, they will become the Registered Contact and their JISA will transfer automatically to an ISA. This means they can keep investing in their ISA, transfer it somewhere else or withdraw some or all of it.
There are two separate charges that apply:
Killik & Co’s fees – This covers the cost of powering Silo and is 0.75% of your total portfolio per annum. Fees are collected automatically on a monthly basis.
Fund Manager fee – Each fund you are invested in has a Fund Manager responsible for administering and managing the underlying investments. The fund manager fee is automatically deducted by the Fund Manager and is estimated to be between 0.20% and 0.50% of the fund value, per annum.
The app is secured by bank level 256-bit TLS encryption.
Killik & Co are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
We will treat you as a ‘Retail Client’ which means you get the highest level of protection under the FCA’s rules. Your investments will be registered in the name of FNZ Securities Limited in accordance with the safe custody rules of the FCA. This means they are kept separate from our and the Custodian’s own investments. Investments are pooled with those of other Silo clients. The Custodian makes sure that at all times it knows which investments belong to which client and is required to make regular reports to the FCA that this is the case. In the unlikely event that the Custodian went bust and was unable to pay any claims against it, you may be entitled to compensation from FSCS for investments up to a value of £85,000.
Your money will remain in your Silo Account until you instruct us to pay any or all of it from your Silo Account to your Bank Account. Withdrawals can only be requested by you logging into the App. We will generally pay amounts held in cash within 5 - 7 business days Business Days of receiving your request.
To sell investments and pay the money to your Bank Account may take up to eleven Business Days. The value of your investments may change between the date of your request and the date the sales are made.
